clean room construction
When I applied for a job at Harcon trion Kft. back in 2020 August. I had no Idea what to expect. I applied for the job because they were looking for a German speaking Civil engineer, and I was looking especially for jobs where I can use my language skills in an international environment. On my first day I started as a translator, but at the end of the meeting with the client I became the site manager for the whole project.
A cleanroom can be defined as an enclosed area within a manufacturing or research facility that was designed to control air pollutant levels, as well as pressurisation, temperature, humidity and personnel access to meet the critical environmental conditions demanded.
They are utilised by a range of industries and research facilities such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, life sciences, microelectronics and food packaging, in order to protect products or processes from contamination. These potential contaminants need to be controlled to ensure product quality, worker safety and research integrity.
Thus, cleanrooms need to be designed properly, and an according set of standards was then developed to classify the ability of a particular cleanroom design to minimise contaminants. Therefore, true cleanrooms must meet guidelines for the amount and size of particles in a specified volume of air.

In the first two weeks I was learning the design of the building and calculated quantities. The actual construction work only starten on the third week with painting. A few weeks later we continued with the gypsum board walls. I prepared detailed drawings for the structure of the wall. Which had to be fire and earthquake resistant and in the meantime a was attending all the meetings with the client and with the subcontractors.
At the end of october I became the BIM manager of the project as well. I had to follow up on the work of our designer team. I attended the BIM meetings with the client. I made the submittals, and organised meetings to solve clashes highlighted by the bim model.
At that time the construction site became more crowded. Electrical and mechanical works commenced. Solving issues about clashes, space management, delivery schedules, unloading and clearance of site became a daily routine. For a very long time it just kept getting busier and busier. We started to build the ceiling, the walls, doors and windows, while the mechanical contractors were increasing the manpower on site as well.
The project itself without any issues would have been a huge experience for me, but life made it even more interesting. We had to deal with a worldwide building material shortage. Nothing arrived in time. We constantly had to reorganise our schedule and our manpower.
Finally we tackled all the difficulties, and we successfully finished the project.
