Puno, Lake Titikaka
Although in my preliminary plans even Bolivia and La Paz were there, when arriving in Arequipa I wasn’t even sure that I would visit Puno which is close to the Bolivian border. My days were numbered and I had to choose between Colca Canyon and Puno. Since my legs were still sore after the hike of Chachani I chose to go to Puno.

I didn’t have high expectations. I read some negative comments about Titicaca, but I absolutely loved it. I had to rush. I only spent one night here but I managed to use every minute of it. Arrived in the evening. I went for a walk in the city. Signed up for Kayaking on the lake. The next morning I went for a run. Then I went Kayaking to the famous floating islands of Uros. After arriving back in the city I went for a hike visiting the viewpoints of the city.

The view was beautiful but I can not just leave it unsaid: The top of the mountain was absolutely disgusting. Piles of trash everywhere. I was so angry. I picked up as much trash as I could but it was just a little drop in the ocean. I did this even though I knew it won’t really make any difference. The only thing that could help and that should be done is Education. Someone should teach Peruvians not to leave the trash wherever they go. I’m sad and angry. I see the signs everywhere. “No tirar basura” But it doesn’t help.
