Food in Peru

One thing for sure. I’m never going to be a food blogger. I almost never take photos of my food and I’m not even looking for specialties, and good restaurants, however I still spent 10 weeks in Peru so it might be worth it to share my experiences. I already shared my opinion on chocolates and here are a few thoughts on food in general.

The most known Peruvian food is Ceviche which is some raw fish with salad and lemon and well. That is something I never tried. Raw fish? No thanks.

Second in the row is Lomo Saltado, which became my favourite. I tried it probably more than twenty times and I was never disappointed. This dish is usually made of beef, it also includes onions, potato, rice, and sauce made of soy sauce, vinegar and some other spices. This dish is on the menu virtually in every restaurant in Peru. Here is a recipe as an example, if you wanna try.

Like I said I’m not really looking for specialties but I do like to go to small restaurants, where mostly locals eat. They might not give you Michelin star quality, but they do show the real Peruvian food. And that surprisingly european like with chicken soups, all right you might find there some quinoa and banana but otherwise it’s usually quite basic. Chicken with some rice and potato and it usually tastes good.

Prices for a full meal starts around 8 Soles in a cheap restaurant serving menu and of course the other end is to the moon, but for 50 Soles (12 €) you can have a pretty nice meal in a fancy restaurant.
