Walking in Purmamarca, Jujuy

Trip to Purmamarca and Humauaca

Jujuy province is in the northwestern corner of Argentina. It has a beautiful and colourful culture which is completely different from the rest of Argentina. They have their own dance, architecture and food. Even the empanadas are different here and they are without any question the best ones.

Purmamarca is one hour drive to the north from San Salvador de Jujuy. Hundreds of tourists arrive everyday to this beautiful little town in the desert to see the Cerro de los Siete Colores (The mountain with the seven colours). The old traditional buildings of the town are occupied by good restaurants and with shops where you can buy every kind of handmade goods.

Here is the stunning Monument to the Heroes of Independence as well. Which celebrates the Gauchos, the idigenous people of this area who fought in the army of the Argentinian General Güemes.

Soon these cities are going to be filled with even more tourists, when the Carnival will take place here, the Fiesta de la Pachamama (Celebration of the mother Earth).
