Laguna 69

The hike up to Laguna 69 was probably the most amazing hike I’ve ever had. It was absolutely stunning from the very first steps, when we walked along a fast flowing creek. Later we walked by several waterfalls one of them is probably the second biggest I’ve ever seen and well, it’s hard to beat Iguazu. I kept stopping and sitting down just to enjoy the view of the waterfall.
First I thought that the waterfall is directly coming from the Laguna 69. But I couldn’t have been more wrong. The top of the waterfall was only around halfway through and once we reached it we were walking on a plain again along a pretty creek again. The end og the hike became pretty hard again. Fighting for air, stopping every 50m, but eventually I reached the top and the view was incredible. The colour of the Laguna is almost unreal, and the mountain above, the glaciers… I can’t really find the words to describe that.

Right after I reached the top I jumped into the water. It wasn’t allowed to do so, but I just really wanted to do it. And honestly the freezing cold water felt quite good for my burned skin.
How to get here
I’ve been told that this is one of the few trips that is only possible through a guided tour but it didn’t seem entirely true since the road leading here seemed quite busy and we met people on the hike not being part of any group. Anyway the trip costs only 50 Sol, and additional 30 for the National park entry. Totally worth it. This should be on the must list for Peru.
