How to get from Asunción to Argentina

Even though Asunción is right on the border of Argentina it is isn’t easy at all to go from one to another. It was especially hard for me.

Since the bridge is pretty far, it would be logical to have a ferry. I found this post about the topic. It would be pretty useful if this border wouldn't be closed due to covid.

The border on the land is still there though, however it is 45 km away from the city centre, which means around one hour of driving. Hopefully my post will be outdated pretty soon as the borders will be open again for international bus connections. In the meantime though we have three options to go to Clorinda, which is the border city in Argentina.

1. Pay for scammers, at the Bus Terminal They act like they would sell a direct ticket to an Argentinian destination, but in reality they sell you a ticket from Clorinda, and they organise the trip to the border for around 300 000 guarani (=40 €). And it either will actually work or not.

2. Uber, Taxi, Remis Uber costs to the border 200000 guarani (=26 €). It isn’t that bad if you aren’t travelling alone. A taxi costs probably a little bit more. On the other side of the border you still have to pay for a taxi or you can walk but the city centre of Clorinda is around 5-6 km. Pay attention to which car you take, because there are too many scammers. I ride to the centre shouldn’t cost more than 500 Peso (=2 €).

3. Public Transport, Walking I don’t really understand how it is possible that nobody knew about this among those 15 people who I asked at the Bus Terminal, but there is a bus to the border. I even asked at the hostel, but they weren’t sure either. They only knew that two years ago there was some kind of bus. All I should have done to check it in Moovit App. It isn’t perfect, though. The ride takes 2 hours from the city centre, and you still have to walk 2 km, but I would rather pay 2 € and walk a little than pay 26€. On the other side of the border the story will be the same. Taxi or walk.
