Beeing a volunteer is the best

Volunteering is good. This is probably the best way to spend free time. Wherever you help, in whatever tasks, you are going to gain useful experiences and last but not least, you are going to get to know a lot of people who have a similar mindset as you do, since nobody would work for free for a cause that they don’t believe in.

I became addicted to volunteering when I joined the Erasmus Student Network (ESN). It defined my years spent at the University and I might never have finished it without ESN.

I lived my Erasmus semester in Dresden so when I arrived home to Budapest I knew that somehow I had to stay in that environment. It wasn’t a question that I would join them. I’ve met so many amazing people. I made friends and I learned. I learned so much that sometimes I think that I can thank ESN more than my University. Sure it was a party on many occasions but it was also a responsibility. Especially when I organised an event or when I decided to become a board member.

I practised English and reached a level which seemed impossible before. I gained confidence in dealing with people, and delegating tasks as a leader of a workgroup.

During my studies at the University I was also part of the Video team and the Hiking team of my faculty. They were useful too. Even though they only had a siderole, I also met some good people and in the video studio I learned how to cut videos, how to use a camera, microphone and some basics of sound engineering.

It lasted only two weeks but it was still a huge adventure to be a volunteer at the Fina Swimming World Championship in 2017 in Budapest. I was part of the group who was responsible for accompanying the medal winners of the swimming events from the swimming pool to the ceremony. I was leading to the ceremony among others Katie Ledecky or Katinka Hosszú.
