Arequipa
Arequipa is a well known city of Peru. It is one of the richest regions of Peru. I could tell the difference the minute I arrived. The road infrastructure is more advanced. The city has bus stops that they actually use. Buildings in general are better maintained. The centre has more pedestrian roads.
Most tourists include it in their itinerary. With its altitude of 2300 the climate here is close to perfect. Not too hot and not too cold. Quite dry but there is enough water for having green places. Even though it is a nice city. It usually isn’t the destination. It is just the basecamp for other tourist attractions. Such as the Colca Canyon or the volcanos.

On my first day I signed up for a short trip to visit the Sillar and a small canyon and I also signed up to climb the Chachani Volcano , that is more than 6000 metre high.

And on my last day I also visited the museum of Mario Vargas Llosa, who is the first and only Nobel Prize winner of Peru and who was born in Arequipa.
